Family Activity Night - January 2012 Winterfest

The January "Winterfest 2012" was a huge success!  HealthyCHILD staff read a story about Tucker the Turtle.  Tucker helps kids learn to understand and manage their feelings in a positive way.  The children also took part in an activity to make Tucker the Turtle puppets using brown paper bags.  The staff planned fun winter-type activities for the children and their families, for example, in Wetzel County the New Martinsville Center staff set up Penguin Bowling, The Martyn Early Learning Center and Shortline staff held pretend snowball fights using coffee filters and the Early Head Start Groups to part in a fun craft for the kids where they painted their hands and then made snowflakes; in Ohio County the activities included Snowball Throwing, decorating a snowman and the kids even decorated a few staff with snowmen noses!, ice fishing was a blast at the local Head Start pond and there was even a Shape Race to round out the evening; and in Hancock County the children and families learned about healthier choices thru a 'Think Your Drink" activity and learning to Move Like Zoo Animals.

Attendance for this event was:

  • Hancock County - 124
  • Brooke County - 66
  • Ohio County - 93
  • Marshall County - 51
  • Wetzel County - 48

We are grateful for the increased family participation compared to the October 2011 event - thank you for attending, and we enjoyed having your entire family!
