Ohio County MIHOW and Local Chapter of the American Lung Association Team Up Against Smoking

(Wheeling, WV) The local chapter of the American Lung Association of WV recently purchased a COmpact CO2 Monitor.  This monitor will be utilized by the Ohio County MIHOW (Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker) program to test the CO2 levels of pregnant mothers who smoke and those who live with them. “Home visitors will provide additional educational materials to the families about the dangers of smoking while pregnant,“ reports Stephanie Barnett, supervisor/home visitor, Ohio County MIHOW program. “It is understandable that if the mother cuts back or quits smoking, her readings on the monitor will decrease. We will also be testing non-smoking individuals who live with a smoker to encourage them to smoke outdoors and to educate them on the dangers of smoking in the home with children.” Pam Wilson of the local chapter shares that she is pleased to be able to provide this device to support the clientele of the MIHOW program to quit smoking.
