Serving Pregnant Women & Families With Children, Birth to Five Years Old in Hancock, Brooke, Ohio, Marshall & Wetzel Counties of West Virginia.
History
Four sites in Tennessee and Kentucky were founded in 1982, 2 sites in West Virginia in 1983, and further expansion into the current 5 states in 1987. Current states served are WV, TN, KY, LA, MS. Our site was founded in 1999. The original idea came from a survey administered by Vanderbilt University’s Center for Health Services to community health clinics in Appalachian areas. The clinics felt that a woman from the area for peer to peer outreach would improve health outcomes for children.
Local history
The Ohio County Family Resource Network first received this grant in 1999. The FRN served as the fiscal agent with Northern Panhandle Head Start Inc. as the direct service provider.
