Celebrating Breastfeeding Awareness Week

Staff, parents and children took part in an annual event held at the Ohio Valley Mall to promote Breastfeeding Awareness Week.  Activities included the annual 1 Mile Walk, children enjoying the Wii System fitness programs, facepainting, and exhibitors such as the local WIC offices and area labor/delivery hospital staff.  The theme for the event was "The Road to Lifelong Health Begins with Breastfeeding".  Mall merchants provided donations to support the event.  WQED TV - Pittsburgh Public Television Station filmed the event to support a special segment about attachment parenting which will be aired on October 29, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.

This event was also featured in the MIHOW Matters newsletter, click here to read more.

Mom's Day Out

Seven mom's participated in a fun day out just for them!  The day began with hair cuts and styles, full makeup and manicures at Scott's College of Cosmotology.  Then they enjoyed a luncheon prepared and donated by the staff and a candy bouquet donated by Candy Bouquet of Wheeling, WV.  The mom's received a gift bag with a journal that was donated by Marlene Midget, Executive Director, NPHS Inc., as well as several toiletry and bath items.

Medical Students Visit

The Laughlin Memorial Chapel, Wheeling, WV, hosted medical students from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  These students wanted to learn about health issues facing our local area, such as availability of prenatal care, the lack of doctors/dentist who accept the medical card as well as learn about the MIHOW program.  Two mothers enrolled in the MIHOW program shared their experiences with the program and how MIHOW has supported them.
