CEMAP - Commitment to Excellence MIHOW Accreditation Program.  Using the MIHOW Standards of Practice, the Center for Health Services will review each MIHOW site for accuracy in service delivery.  This review ensures that MIHOW services are of the highest quality and consistent in delivery across every MIHOW site.  Reviews are conducted every five years.

Locally, the Ohio County MIHOW program first achieved CEMAP accreditation in October 2006.  The second review was conducted in March 2011.

Re-accreditation Announcement

Ohio County MIHOW Program Receives Reaccreditation, March 2011 - The Maternal Infant Health Outreach Worker program currently operates in twenty sites, and has provided services to more than 12,000 families in Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and West Virginia. MIHOW's unique approach centers around mothers helping mothers in their own homes to ensure that families receive the health and social services they need. Through monthly home visits and parenting groups, MIHOW promotes healthy pregnancies, healthy children, and healthy emotional bonds between children and their parents. "Achieving reaccreditation means Ohio County’s program has met or exceeded the rigorous MIHOW Standards of Practice. It demonstrates that Ohio County MIHOW is prepared and capable of serving pregnant women and young families in a way that stimulates their growth and health as a family. We were pleased by how involved and confident the mothers they serve are.  Those moms attributed their growth to the strong relationships they have with their outreach workers.  The MIHOW mothers told us how their workers listened to them and provided guidance without being judgmental.  Ohio County staff understand the power of equipping mothers to advocate for themselves.  They are organized and well-trained.  Northern Panhandle Head Start operates a high quality MIHOW program," shared Tonya Elkins, LAPSW, MSW, MIHOW Director, Vanderbilt Center for Health Services, Nashville, Tennessee.
